Ordering & Account
How do I place an order at Cost Cut Meats?
Browse the catalogue, choose your cuts, select your weight or variant, and click Add to Cart. When you're ready, click the cart icon in the top right, review your order, and click Checkout. Enter your delivery address and payment details, and you'll receive an order confirmation by email within minutes.
Do I need an account to order?
No, you can check out as a guest with just your email and delivery address. However, creating an account lets you save addresses, track previous orders, set up recurring deliveries, and check out faster on return visits. Account creation is optional and free.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, and Afterpay for orders that qualify. Payment is processed securely through Shopify Payments with full encryption. We don't store your card details on our servers.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. All payments are processed through Shopify Payments and Stripe, which are PCI DSS compliant at the highest level. Your card details are encrypted in transit and we never see or store the full card number. Look for the padlock icon in your browser address bar to confirm the connection is secure.
Can I order over the phone?
For most orders we recommend using the website since it's faster and gives you a full record of what you've ordered. For bulk catering orders, restaurant supply, or community event orders that need quoting or special handling, call us on 0480 890 901 and we'll take the order manually.
Can I save my favourite products for next time?
Yes, if you have an account you can save addresses and view your order history to reorder favourites with one click. We're working on a wishlist feature for future updates. In the meantime, your previous orders are all accessible from the account dashboard.
Do you offer bulk discounts for large orders?
Yes. For orders over $1,000 (typical for catering, restaurant supply, mosque events, or community gatherings) we can offer bulk pricing on request. Contact orders@costcutmeats.com.au or call 0480 890 901 with your quantity and timing requirements and we'll quote within 1 business day.
Can I add to or change an order after placing it?
If your order hasn't been packed yet (usually within 2 hours of placing it on a dispatch day), email orders@costcutmeats.com.au or call 0480 890 901 immediately and we'll try to amend it. Once an order is packed and dispatched, changes aren't possible but you can place a separate order for additional items.
How do I cancel an order?
Email orders@costcutmeats.com.au or call 0480 890 901 as soon as possible after placing the order. If we haven't packed it yet, we can cancel and refund in full. If it's already been packed or dispatched, cancellation isn't possible but you can return any unopened cuts under our Satisfaction Guarantee.
Do you have a minimum order value?
No, there's no minimum order value. You can order a single cut if that's all you need. However, shipping is a flat $30 Australia wide, and free shipping kicks in on orders over $300 to most metro postcodes, so larger orders work out better value per kilo.
Will I receive an order confirmation?
Yes. Within a few minutes of placing your order you'll receive a confirmation email with your order number, items, total paid, and estimated dispatch date. If you don't receive it, check your spam folder. If it's not there, email orders@costcutmeats.com.au and we'll resend it.
Delivery & Shipping
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is a flat $30 Australia wide regardless of order size or weight. Free shipping applies on orders over $300 to most metropolitan postcodes. Remote regional postcodes may have a small additional surcharge calculated at checkout based on your delivery address.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery times vary by location. Most Victorian metro areas receive orders within 1 to 2 business days. NSW, SA, and ACT metro areas typically take 2 to 3 business days. TAS, QLD, WA, and NT metro areas take 3 to 5 business days. Regional postcodes add 1 to 2 extra days. Full delivery times for every state are shown on each product page in the Shipping tab.
Which days do you dispatch orders?
We dispatch every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday via express courier. The cut-off for same-day dispatch is 12pm on dispatch days. Orders placed after the cut-off are packed and shipped on the next dispatch day to maintain cold chain integrity.
What if I'm not home when delivery arrives?
Most couriers will leave your package in a cool, shaded spot if you're not home, with the insulated packaging keeping the meat at safe temperature for up to 12 hours after delivery. We recommend specifying a safe drop spot at checkout, or arranging for a neighbour to collect, or rescheduling for a day you're available.
Can I choose my delivery day?
At checkout you can select a preferred delivery date, subject to the dispatch days available for your region. For specific timing requirements (weddings, parties, Eid celebrations), we recommend placing your order at least 5 to 7 days in advance to guarantee your preferred date.
Do you deliver to PO boxes or parcel lockers?
No, we deliver to physical street addresses only because the meat needs to be received cold and refrigerated promptly. Couriers cannot leave refrigerated packages at PO boxes or parcel lockers. Provide a residential or business address where someone can receive the package or where it can be safely left.
How is the meat kept cold during delivery?
Every order ships in an insulated box with chilled gel packs. The box maintains safe meat temperature for up to 24 hours during transit and another 12 hours once delivered. Meat arrives chilled (not frozen) and is ready to refrigerate or freeze on arrival. We use the same cold chain shipping infrastructure as commercial meat distributors.
Will I get tracking information?
Yes. As soon as your order is dispatched, you'll receive a tracking email and SMS with a link to track the package in real time from dispatch through to delivery. Most metro couriers also send their own SMS updates 30 to 60 minutes before delivery on the day.
What if my delivery is delayed or doesn't arrive?
Contact orders@costcutmeats.com.au or call 0480 890 901 immediately if your package is late or missing. Most courier delays resolve within 24 to 48 hours. If a delay risks the meat being out of temperature for too long, we'll arrange a replacement order under our Satisfaction Guarantee at no extra cost.
Can I redirect a delivery to a different address?
If the package hasn't been picked up by the courier yet, email orders@costcutmeats.com.au and we can change the address. Once it's with the courier, address changes are sometimes possible through the courier directly using the tracking link, but availability varies by courier.
What if my meat arrives warm?
If the meat is genuinely warm or above safe temperature on arrival, take a photo immediately and email orders@costcutmeats.com.au within 24 hours. We'll arrange a full refund or replacement under our Satisfaction Guarantee, no questions asked. The vast majority of orders arrive properly chilled but we stand behind every delivery.
Do you deliver to all of Australia?
Yes, we deliver to all states and territories across Australia, including metro and regional postcodes. Some very remote postcodes may have extended delivery times or a small surcharge. Enter your postcode at checkout to confirm availability and see the exact delivery timeline and cost for your area.
Can I collect my order from a Cost Cut Meats location?
We don't currently offer pickup. All orders are processed for cold chain delivery to your nominated address. If you have a bulk catering order that requires special handling, contact us at orders@costcutmeats.com.au to discuss your options.
Quality & Sourcing
Where does your beef come from?
All our beef is sourced from named Australian producers. Our main supplier partners include Australian Meat Group (AMG), Southern Ranges, Cape Grim, Bannockburn Free Range, and Riverina. Every cut is fully traceable from farm to dispatch, with provenance details listed on each product page.
What does "grass fed" actually mean for your beef?
Grass fed cattle eat pasture their whole lives. They're never fattened on grain or finished in feedlots. This produces leaner beef with a deeper, more complex flavour and higher omega 3 levels compared to grain finished beef. Our grass fed Angus from AMG and Southern Ranges is finished entirely on pasture across Victorian and NSW farms.
What's the difference between grass fed and grain fed beef?
Grass fed cattle live on pasture their entire lives. Grain fed cattle spend their final 60 to 120 days in feedlots eating grain to add marbling and weight. Grass fed beef is leaner, more flavourful, and higher in omega 3s. Grain fed beef has more marbling, a milder taste, and a richer mouthfeel. We stock premium options from both styles so you can choose what suits your cooking.
Is your beef MSA graded?
Yes, most of our beef carries MSA (Meat Standards Australia) grading, which is Australia's independent eating quality grading system. MSA graded beef is assessed for tenderness, juiciness, and flavour by trained assessors at the abattoir. The MSA grade is listed in the product specifications on each product page where applicable.
What is Wagyu and how is it graded?
Wagyu is a breed of cattle originally from Japan, prized for its exceptional marbling (intramuscular fat that gives the meat its signature buttery texture). Wagyu is graded by marble score (MB) typically from MB1 (light marbling) to MB12 (extreme marbling). Most of our Wagyu sits in the MB2+ to MB5+ range, offering premium quality at fair prices.
How long is your beef aged?
Aging time varies by cut. Premium steak cuts like scotch fillet, eye fillet, and porterhouse are wet aged for a minimum of 21 days at our supplier partners. Some cuts are dry aged for 28 to 35 days for additional flavour development. The aging time for each product is listed in the specifications.
What's the difference between wet aging and dry aging?
Wet aging happens in vacuum sealed packaging at controlled temperature for 14 to 28 days. The meat tenderises naturally in its own juices. Dry aging happens in temperature and humidity controlled rooms with no packaging, typically 21 to 60 days. Dry aging concentrates the flavour and creates a stronger, nuttier taste. Both methods produce premium quality, just different flavour profiles.
Is your beef Halal certified?
Yes, we maintain Halal certification across our entire range through accredited Australian Halal certifying authorities. Certification covers slaughter, processing, packaging, and dispatch. The Halal Certified collection on the website shows every product with current certification, and documentation is available on request.
What about hormones and antibiotics?
Our beef is raised without added hormones or routine antibiotics. Our supplier partners follow strict husbandry practices including low-stress handling, sustainable grazing, and natural disease prevention. This is documented through their accreditation with industry bodies like Cattle Australia.
How fresh is the meat when it arrives?
All cuts are butchered, vacuum sealed, and dispatched within 24 to 48 hours of leaving the producer. Beef cuts where aging improves quality are properly wet aged or dry aged before dispatch. Chicken and pork ship fresh without aging. Meat arrives chilled at fridge temperature, never frozen in transit.
Is the meat ever frozen before I receive it?
No. All meat ships chilled in insulated packaging, never frozen, unless clearly marked as frozen on the product page. We use cold chain delivery to maintain fridge temperature from dispatch through to your door. You can freeze the meat yourself once it arrives if you're not cooking it within 5 days.
Are your suppliers ethically certified?
Yes. Our supplier partners hold accreditations including Australian Animal Welfare standards, Pasture Raised certification where applicable, and environmental sustainability commitments. Specific certifications vary by supplier and are mentioned on individual product pages where relevant.
Do you sell organic beef?
We don't currently certify our range as organic, though many of our supplier partners follow regenerative grazing practices and avoid synthetic inputs. We focus on traceable, premium quality from named farms rather than the certified organic category. If organic certification is essential for your purchase, contact us directly to discuss specific products.
How do you ensure consistent quality?
Every batch from every supplier goes through our quality check before being listed for sale. Cuts that don't meet our standards (insufficient marbling, irregular shape, signs of poor handling) are rejected at intake. Our suppliers know our standards and maintain them consistently because their continued partnership depends on it.
Halal Certification
Is all your meat Halal certified?
Yes, we maintain Halal certification across our full range through accredited Australian Halal certifying authorities. Every product in our catalogue is processed at Halal certified facilities with proper slaughter practices and cross-contamination controls. The Halal Certified collection on our website shows the current full certified range.
Which Halal certification authority certifies your meat?
Our supplier partners work with recognised Australian Halal certifying bodies including the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) and other accredited authorities. The specific certifying body may vary by supplier and individual product. Certification documentation can be supplied on request through orders@costcutmeats.com.au.
What does your Halal certification cover?
Full chain certification covers the moment of slaughter (performed by trained Muslim slaughtermen using the Zabihah method with recitation of the Tasmiyah), processing facilities (separate from non-Halal production or thoroughly cleaned between runs), packaging integrity, and dispatch handling. The chain is audited regularly by the certifying body.
Can I get certification documentation for an event or catering use?
Yes. For weddings, Eid celebrations, mosque catering, restaurant supply, or any compliance requirement, contact orders@costcutmeats.com.au or call 0480 890 901 in advance of your order. We'll supply the relevant certification papers and confirm specific product certification status for your event.
Is the slaughter performed correctly?
Yes. Slaughter is performed by trained Muslim slaughtermen following the Zabihah method, with recitation of the Tasmiyah (Bismillah Allahu Akbar) at the moment of slaughter. This is supervised by the certifying authority and audited regularly. The cattle face Mecca, the slaughter is swift, and blood is properly drained.
How do you prevent cross contamination with non-Halal products?
Our supplier partners maintain separate certified production runs, with thorough cleaning between Halal and non-Halal batches. Halal products are vacuum sealed at the supplier level with the certification mark visible on the packaging. Within our shipping process, Halal products are packed separately from non-Halal in dedicated insulated boxes.
Are the cattle stunned before slaughter?
Stunning practices vary by supplier and certification standard. Some Halal certifying authorities accept reversible electrical stunning (where the animal remains alive at slaughter) while others require no stunning. For specific information on the practices used by your meat's supplier, contact us and we can verify with the supplier directly.
Is Wagyu Halal certified at Cost Cut Meats?
Yes, our Wagyu range is Halal certified through our accredited supplier partners. Marble score, aging, and cut quality are identical to non-Halal Wagyu from the same producers. The Halal Certified collection shows all currently certified Wagyu options.
Are bulk boxes Halal certified?
Yes, our bulk box range is Halal certified end to end. Each bulk box contains cuts from Halal certified production, packed in Halal-compliant facilities, and certified to the same standards as individual cuts. Documentation is available on request for catering or community event use.
Do you cater for mosque or community events?
Yes, absolutely. For mosque catering, community Eid events, charity dinners, or community organisation orders, contact orders@costcutmeats.com.au or call 0480 890 901 to discuss quantities, specific cuts, delivery timing, and any documentation needs. We recommend placing community catering orders 7 to 10 days in advance.
Are the Halal Certified products priced the same as non-Halal?
Yes, Halal certified products are priced the same as the equivalent non-Halal cuts from the same suppliers. We don't charge a premium for certification, the price reflects the cut, breed, vendor, and any current specials.
Cooking & Storage
How should I store the meat when it arrives?
Refrigerate immediately on arrival, in the coldest part of your fridge (typically the bottom shelf at around 0 to 4C). Keep the meat in its original vacuum sealed packaging until ready to use. Unopened cryovac packaging keeps cuts fresh for up to 14 days from delivery date in the fridge.
Can I freeze the meat after it arrives?
Yes, absolutely. All cuts are vacuum sealed which makes them ideal for freezing. Most cuts freeze well for up to 6 months without quality loss. Freeze on the day of delivery if you're not cooking within 5 days. Leave the meat in its original vacuum bag and store at minus 18C or below.
How do I defrost the meat properly?
Defrost slowly in the fridge over 24 to 36 hours for the best results. Don't defrost on the bench at room temperature (food safety risk) or in hot water. For thinner cuts, 12 to 18 hours in the fridge is usually enough. For whole cuts like a 2kg eye fillet, allow a full 36 hours. Cook within 2 to 3 days of defrosting.
How long does the meat last in the fridge?
Unopened in its vacuum sealed packaging, most cuts keep for up to 14 days in the fridge below 4C. Once opened, cook within 3 days for best quality. If you're not cooking within those windows, transfer the meat to the freezer.
What's the best way to cook a steak?
For premium steaks (scotch fillet, eye fillet, porterhouse), bring to room temperature for 30 minutes before cooking. Season generously with salt and pepper. Heat a heavy cast iron pan until smoking hot, add high smoke point oil, and sear each side for 2 to 3 minutes for medium rare. Pull at internal temperature of 52 to 54C, rest for 5 minutes, slice and serve.
What internal temperature should I cook beef to?
For premium steaks, aim for 50 to 52C internal temperature for rare, 52 to 54C for medium rare (recommended for most cuts), 55 to 58C for medium, and 60C plus for medium well. Internal temperature rises another 2 to 3 degrees during resting, so pull a few degrees below your target. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
Why is resting beef important?
Resting lets the juices redistribute through the meat instead of running out when you cut into it. Without resting, you lose moisture and the texture suffers. Rest steaks 5 minutes minimum, larger cuts like roasts 10 to 15 minutes loosely tented with foil. The internal temperature will continue rising slightly during the rest, which is why we pull below target temp.
How do I cook a roast beef?
For a whole eye fillet or scotch fillet roast, tie with butcher's twine for even shape, season heavily, sear all sides in a hot pan, then transfer to a 200C oven. Cook for roughly 20 to 25 minutes per 2kg piece, pulling at internal temp of 50C for medium rare. Rest for 10 to 15 minutes loosely tented under foil before carving into thick rounds.
Can I cook beef from frozen?
It's better to defrost first for premium steak cuts since cooking from frozen makes it harder to achieve even doneness. For slower cooking methods like braising, casseroles, or slow roasting, you can cook from frozen with extended cooking time. Always check internal temperature reaches safe minimums.
How do I know if my pan is hot enough for searing?
The pan should be smoking lightly before you add the meat. Test by flicking a drop of water onto the surface, it should evaporate instantly with a hiss. If the meat doesn't sizzle aggressively when it hits the pan, the pan is too cold and you'll boil the meat instead of searing it.
What's the best oil for searing steaks?
Use high smoke point oils like grapeseed, avocado, or refined canola oil. Avoid olive oil or butter for the initial sear because they burn at high heat. Add butter and herbs in the final minute of cooking for flavour, basting over the steak as it finishes.
How long do I cook a thick cut like eye fillet?
For a 3cm to 4cm thick eye fillet steak, sear 2 to 3 minutes per side over very high heat, then finish in the pan over medium heat or transfer to a 200C oven for 4 to 6 minutes to reach internal temp of 52 to 54C. Always rest before slicing.
Can I cook on the BBQ?
Yes, BBQ works well for most cuts. Use direct high heat for steaks and chops, indirect heat for larger cuts and roasts. Don't close the lid on lean cuts like eye fillet (lean meat dries out fast on a covered grill). Sear hot, rest properly, slice against the grain.
Returns & Refunds
What is your Satisfaction Guarantee?
We stand behind every piece of meat we send. If there's any issue with quality, condition, or temperature on arrival, contact us within 24 hours of delivery with a photo and we'll arrange a full refund or replacement, no fuss. The guarantee covers the full purchase price including shipping.
How do I report a problem with my order?
Email orders@costcutmeats.com.au within 24 hours of delivery with your order number, a brief description of the issue, and at least one clear photo of the problem (meat appearance, packaging condition, or temperature concern). You can also call 0480 890 901 during business hours. We respond within 1 business day.
What if the meat arrives damaged?
If your meat arrives in damaged packaging, with broken seals, or visibly compromised in any way, photograph immediately on arrival and contact us within 24 hours. We'll arrange a full refund or replacement and lodge a claim with the courier on your behalf. Don't dispose of the meat until we confirm the next steps.
Can I return meat if I changed my mind?
Because of food safety regulations, we can't accept returns of opened, defrosted, or refrigerated meat just because you changed your mind. If the meat has any quality issue, we'll replace or refund under the Satisfaction Guarantee. For unopened packaging within the first 24 hours, contact us and we'll review case by case.
How long does a refund take?
Once we confirm the refund (usually within 1 to 2 business days of receiving your report), the funds are returned to your original payment method within 5 to 10 business days depending on your bank. Credit card refunds typically appear within 3 to 5 days. Bank transfer or BPAY refunds can take up to 10 days.
What if I receive the wrong cut or quantity?
Contact orders@costcutmeats.com.au immediately with your order number and a photo of what you received. We'll send the correct items at no extra cost and arrange collection or disposal of the incorrect items. This rarely happens but when it does we make it right.
Can I get a replacement instead of a refund?
Yes, in most cases we can send a replacement of the same product on the next dispatch day at no extra cost. Choose whichever you prefer when you contact us about the issue. Replacement is often faster than waiting for refunds to clear.
Do you offer compensation for spoiled meat?
If any meat has spoiled due to temperature issues during delivery, packaging damage, or any other delivery related cause, we cover the full cost. Don't dispose of the spoiled product until we've reviewed the photos. We may also offer a goodwill credit for the inconvenience on top of the refund.
What if my meat is fine but doesn't meet my expectations?
If the meat arrived in good condition but you're disappointed with the quality, taste, or appearance, contact us within 7 days of delivery with specifics and photos. We take feedback seriously and may offer a credit, replacement, or refund depending on the circumstances. Premium quality is what we stand for, so we want to know if we've fallen short.
Can I get a refund for a missed delivery?
If a courier failed to deliver and the meat was returned to the sender or spoiled in transit, we'll arrange a full refund or replacement. Contact orders@costcutmeats.com.au with your order number and tracking details. We work directly with the courier to resolve missed deliveries and you don't have to chase them yourself.
